The following three sections discuss some background on the purpose of Earth Aquarius News as both a print and online vehicle to raise the consciousness within the global astrological community.

Our Earth Aquarius News website and journal is operated by and a part of the overall work and incorporated business known as Great Bear Enterprises, Ltd. Our company was started on July 29, 1988 in Salem, Oregon.

A Little History
Earth Aquarius News is really an outgrowth of Welcome to Planet Earth astrology journal that began as a small newsletter in Amherst, Massachusetts back in 1981. By the following year in Madison, Wisconsin it evolved into a 16-page newspaper. Shortly after my arrival in Eugene, Oregon in September 1984, the newspaper version of WTPE journal metamorphosed into a magazine.
From 1985 to 2000 our readership grew throughout America, Canada and the world to many thousands. This happened primarily through gift subscriptions from current subscribers, word of mouth, and the sale of the journal in bookshops and metaphysical stores around the country.
As the power of the World Wide Web began to grow in the mid-1990s, we took our first step online in creating a web site for Welcome to Planet Earth. Then due to family challenges, I made the decision to temporarily suspend the print version of our periodical and focus more on developing an online approach to presenting astrological stories, color charts and coverage of current events.
By the end of 2004 and beginning of 2005, this totally new version of an astrological journal linking the realms of print and internet has taken shape. It is now being launched in January 2005 through the hard work and expertise of Connie Kudura of Prototype (for the print version) and Laura McClain and her associates at Dive in Designs here in Eugene, Oregon (for the online version).

The Mission of the Newspaper
A primary goal of Earth Aquarius News is to educate the open-minded concerning the New Astrology in the Contemporary World. In addition to a mission keynote on the masthead, our twin themes are:
Transpersonal astrology as a path to enlightenment and the planetary heart.
Lighting the way for America and the world community of nations into a New Age.

Why is it called Earth Aquarius News?
I chose the name Earth Aquarius News for the following reasons:
We need to recognize this planet as our solar systemic home. Science and astronomy have revealed to us how forbidding all the other planets are to physical life. With the creation of nuclear weapons, humanity has been poised to destroy our local cosmic environment since the end of World War II. When astronauts first circled the Moon in 1968 before landing there they captured a photo of the Earth from nearly 250,000 miles away and that image of Earthrise made a great impression on humanity. We may dream of visiting Mars or other planets way in the future, but the reality is that humanity needs to take its place as an inspired mediator between the divine realms, and the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms.
There is a good chance that during the time-period from now through 2087, the long-awaited Age Aquarius will make its first tentative beginnings. I shared that good news in a cover story for Welcome to Planet Earth journal back in late 1998 once Uranus ruling Aquarius had entered its own sign for the first time since the period of World War I. Currently, Neptune is moving through Aquarius (1998-2012), Chiron will visit (2006-2011 and 2056-2061), Jupiter and Neptune will form a union in this sign (2009), Jupiter and Saturn will converge in Aquarius twice (2020 and 2080), distant Pluto will spend 20 years traveling through Aquarius (2024-2044), Jupiter conjuncts Pluto in Aquarius (2033), and Uranus will again return to this sign (2079-2087). We may never know the precise year or time when the Aquarian Age will start, but the next 9 decades will constitute a higher awakening process.
In imagining the compass logo for the right side of our masthead, I realized that the word NEWS contained the first letters for the 4 compass directions of North, East, West and South. This appeared to me as a kind of talisman helping us to evoke our higher purpose and spiritual orientation as an online newspaper. Inside that compass is the astronomical symbol for the Earth (the circle with the cross inside it) with the zodiacal glyph for Aquarius just below it.
May Earth Aquarius News fulfill its larger destiny within the realms of astrology, publishing and the multi-media.
